  • Let's travel sustainably

Sustainable tourism, which has been talked about so much in the last few years, is not just a fad, but we could call it a necessary constant or a mandatory new normality, which was brought to us mainly by climate change. The reality of the new time or a challenge that has already and will redistribute many tourist flows. Consumer behavior has been changing rapidly in recent years, and the consumer is also a tourist who is increasingly looking for green, sustainably oriented destinations, which we also see at the Kolpa Glamping Resort. What is green tourism right for? By green tourism we mean all aspects of sustainable tourism based on four principles, namely environmental, socio-cultural, economic and climatic. Sustainable forms of tourism are becoming a necessary direction of development, as only tourism that is based on the economic success of business and at the same time will be tolerant of the natural, cultural and social environment will be competitive. So what is sustainable tourism or how would you best describe it? Sustainable tourism is certainly one of the main topics of study in the field of tourism. Both politicians at the European level and Slovenia have committed themselves to its development, and the priority of the strategy is described in the words green, sustainable and responsible. Sustainable tourism is therefore tourism that takes full account of current and future economic, social and environmental impacts that address the needs of visitors, industry, the environment and host communities. It is tourism that brings as few negative effects as possible to the natural and social environment and maximizes the positive ones. In ensuring the principles of sustainable tourism, it is very important to understand the perceptions of tourists, their motivation and, last but not least, satisfaction, and to consider all of the above as part of the social pillar of sustainable development. It is also extremely important to understand the relationship between the motives of tourists, the ability of the destination itself to be able to satisfy guests and the perceptions of the local population. We do not ignore the listed challenges in Kolpa Glamping Resort, but at the end of each season we think in depth about further possibilities for improvement. Also at the end of last season, we reviewed the reviews and introduced quite a few innovations that we ourselves are excited about and we believe that you, our guests, will be as well. We wanted to let you know that we hear your wishes, we understand your needs and therefore we constantly strive to provide conditions under which you will feel wanted and relaxed with us. Bela krajina is really white because of the white birches and white costumes, but its nature is beautiful shades of green and we want your experience with us to be like that - green and favored by green.

  • Discover the secrets of Slovenian cycling success

Slovenia could be described as a dream destination for cycling, but at the same time we are constantly asked what exactly is what makes the small country of Central Europe so very unique. We would say that its greatest specialty is probably the diversity of terrains and landscapes that are suitable for both young and young at heart. It is no wonder that two big cycling names - Primož Roglič and Tadej Pogačar - come from Slovenia. Countries that could be compared to Slovenia in terms of their natural diversity could probably be counted on the fingers of one hand. Stunning alpine trails as well as cycling parks, cycling among vineyards in Dolenjska and Prekmurje or offering long cycling trails for a test. In Slovenia, none of the above is missing. In fact, there is something for everyone. A great advantage is the above-mentioned small radius of different regions or the small size of Slovenia in general, which in its beauty offers travelers, due to the favorable Mediterranean climate, the opportunity to explore the landscape on two wheels almost all year round. Do you still remember the race in France? Sovenians can be grateful for the new synonym of successful road cycling, which was brought to our small countries by Roglič and Pogačar. The cycling race around Slovenia also showed how great the pleasures of road cycling Slovenia can create. If you remember the words of the first paragraph, when we wrote that there is a suitable cycling route for everyone and you somehow didn't feel yourself in road cycling, don't worry. Slovenia also promises unforgettable experiences for more adrenaline-fueled cyclists. Such is, for example, the Vršič pass, which reaches 1,611 meters and has, like the famous ascent to the Alpe d'Huez, 50 numbered turns. Let us comfort you, it is much easier to go to the valley, and at the top of Vršič you can enjoy wonderful Slovenian cuisine. Good enough motivation to take on the challenge? Slovenian mountain bike trails are suitable for both beginners and top cyclists, but you will find most of them in Carinthia, where you can enjoy the abundance of mountain roads, forest trails and cart tracks, which are a real challenge for experienced cyclists. Under the mighty Peca you can ride a mountain bike even underground, but you can also choose a bicycle park where you will enjoy the natural features of the north of Slovenia. Let us also trust you that many Slovenian cycling routes are not exclusively for experienced cyclists, but are also friendly for beginners and families. You can go for a ride by the sea or under the mighty peaks of Slovenian mountains and riverbeds. You can explore the slopes of the only national park in Slovenia and in this way connect gastronomy and sustainability. Exploring cities by bike is also interesting, and Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, is ranked among the most cyclist-friendly cities in the world and offers more than 230 km of marked cycling routes. Maribor is also a great place to explore by bike, especially the Old Vine Trail, which will take you from the oldest vine in the world in the city center all the way to the Styrian vineyards. In the last few years, the trend of exploring landscapes with e-bikes has grown significantly, and Slovenia has also benefited from innovations, which have made it easier and more accessible for travelers to explore their landscapes. E-bikes are especially interesting for exploring hilly parts, especially in windy conditions, and at the same time this way is green, active and healthy. The great advantage of e-bikes is that a group of cyclists travel together, without waiting long, especially in the stunning landscapes of Bela krajina or the wine-growing valley of Posavje and between the thermal springs of Dolenjska and the Mediterranean settlements of Istria. If you’re going on a bike trip for a few more days, don’t worry. Slovenia has many cyclist-friendly hotels, hostels, boarding houses and other accommodation at your disposal, and you are always welcome here, in Bela krajina, at the Kolpa Glamping Resort. Since food is also important on the way, which ensures the strength of cyclists, we can make your day better, because in this case, too, Slovenia is the right solution. In 2021, it received the title of European Gastronomic Region 2021 and is considered one of the most culinary exciting countries in Europe. And if you happen to crave a different cycling experience, this small country offers many macadam paths that will, especially if you are planning a longer ride on two bikes, impress you with the diversity of the Slovenian landscape.

  • Old town of Metlika

Culture is thus our identity, it tells us who we are. An important holiday for the Slovene nation is certainly Prešeren's Day, which is celebrated on 8 February, the day of the death of the greatest Slovene poet - France Prešeren. Going back to culture, we could say that culture is something that represents the nation, the landscape or the people who are determined in the area. On 8 February, Prešeren's Day or Slovenian cultural holiday, the central national celebration takes place in Slovenia, at which the Prešeren Awards and the Prešeren Fund Awards for top achievements in the field of art in Slovenia are presented. But culture is much more than that. In the days when we lived without the virus, this day was the opening of all cultural institutions, such as museums, galleries … We hope that we will be able to experience a sense of culture in 2022, drive to a less known place and discover unknown beauties. In the vicinity of our glamping resort in Metlika you can see in the old town: Slovenian Fire Brigade Museum Firefighter's historical heritage represents a large part of Slovenia's cultural past. In the old town of Metlika, in the immediate vicinity of the castle, stands the Slovenian Fire Brigade Museum dr. Branko Božič, who with his rich collection shows the historical heritage and extensive activity of the fire brigade from the beginning to the present day. Bela Krajina Museum The museum in Metlika was opened in 1951 and is located in Metlika Castle, which stands in the old part of Metlika. The museum takes care of the movable cultural heritage of Bela krajina and has three permanent exhibitions, namely the Permanent Exhibition in Metlika Castle, which shows the life of local people, from settlement in prehistory to the middle of the 20th century. Oton Župančič Memorial Collection in Vinica (dislocated unit), Local museum collection in Semič (dislocated unit). Kambič Gallery In 2003, the Metlika Museum in Bela Krajina took over the donation of the late Metlika compatriot, academician prof. dr. Vinko Kambič, an internationally renowned otorhinolaryngologist, and his wife, opera singer Vilma Bukovec Kambič. The collection of national importance consists of cultural and historical objects (furniture, clocks, lamps, glass paintings, handicrafts) and works of art by various Slovenian artists (from the generation of realists and impressionists to living artists). Tri fare Tri fare (3 churches) are located in the settlement of Rosalnice near Metlika. The pilgrimage complex is distinguished by three Gothic churches, huddled within a high cemetery wall, which is probably partly a remnant of the anti-Turkish camp. Churches stand side by side. As we have said many times, Bela krajina is very interesting for research in the colder months of the year, both for sports and adrenaline enthusiasts as well as for lovers of culture. Welcome to the Bela krajina, the land of white birches!

  • Why is sleeping important?

Poor sleep can cause problems such as poor concentration, depression and high blood pressure. Each of us sleeps poorly at time to time, and this can become a serious problem if a lack of proper sleep occurs regularly. Sleep disorders are a very serious health problem as they often remain unrecognizable. What are the causes of poor sleep? Anxious thoughts can keep us awake, mood swings can cause insomnia and shortened sleep hours, as well as changes in our biorhythm. Even our lifestyle can affect to bad sleep; unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, too much alcohol, nicotine or caffeine can negatively affect sleep. So why is sleep so important? According to American researchers, good sleep strengthens your immune system and helps you maintain a stable weight. With good sleep, you are less likely to get diabetes and generally bad mood. Your body rejuvenates and regenerates during sleep. Healthy sleep potentially reduces the risk of heart disease. People often talk about the positive effects of spending time outside and connecting with nature. Life is less stressful after spending time outside, whether it’s just enjoying nature or minor outdoor activities. However, try different activities and find the solutions that help you the most. Circadian rhythm - Features of the human circadian biological clock. Source: Wikipedia. Here are some ideas that can help reduce stress and help you sleep better; 1. Fresh air We inhale it every day and rarely stop to think about the benefits it brings to our health. About 20% of the air we breathe is oxygen - crucial to the functioning of our body. Did you know that the brain is one of the biggest consumers of oxygen in our bodies? They use almost three times more oxygen than our muscles because they need a lot of energy to work and heal. One of the brain functions is to regulate our body clock, also known as the circadian rhythm, and this includes our sleep. Fresh air is therefore an important step in maintaining body rhythms such as waking and sleeping. Sometimes it’s a real luxury to spend time outdoors, but even a few minutes every day is better than nothing. Go for a walk if you can. Yes, this is easier to do in the spring and summer months, when daylight is longer, but even in the fall and winter, you can take a short walk in the morning or early afternoon. Try to spend a few minutes every day in the gardening. Some benefits will only bring you 10 minutes of survival outside. Also adding bird feed in the winter helps provide an opportunity to enjoy the fresh air. Could you add a few minutes to your bedtime routine? Turn off the TV and take a few deep breaths of fresh air before going to bed. See the night sky or listen to the sounds around you. If you can, sleep with the bedroom window open. If you can’t because of traffic noise, etc., try leaving the window open in another room and leaving the bedroom door ajar. 2. Sounds of nature When you are outside, you can hear some pleasant relaxing sounds coming from nature, such as birdsong, wind whistling through the leaves, a bubbling stream or people screaming in the street, barking dogs, car horns, trumpets, radio from the house next door ... The last few may not lead to a calm mind for most of us, but the sounds of nature help us relax. They lower our anxiety levels and generally help us feel better about ourselves, all of which help us sleep better at the end of the day. 3. Physical exercise Low-level exercise can be included in your daily routine, as you are probably exercising without realizing it. We have already briefly mentioned walking and short outdoor activities, all of which can be taken into account in daily physical exercise. Outdoor activities such as gardening, socializing, washing and sweeping can also be considered as an activity. For a higher level of exercise, try exercising in the garden. Take advantage of all our suggestions: fresh air, the sounds of nature and physical activity! If you are looking for something that also has a social side, look in the local area or there are groups for outdoor activities.
