  • Wine experiences in the Bela Krajina

Bela krajina is the smallest Slovenian wine-growing region. It lies in the south-eastern part of Slovenia between the Gorjanci hills and the river Kolpa, along which the border with Croatia runs. It is the warmest Posavje region with a continental and sub-Pannonian climate and Mediterranean influences. The geological composition is dominated by limestone and dolomite, there is also a lot of red clay, some flysch, sandstone and marl. It is the combination of the different geological composition of the soil and the climate that gives Belokrajna wines a special note. The possible large temperature difference between day and night enables the production of aromatic wines that retain freshness at the same time. Not only the wines, but also the Belokranje cuisine and the hospitality of the Belokranje people will inspire you to come back to this small white land. Have we listed enough reasons for you to go exploring Belokrajna's wine secrets? Winemakers we recommend: Metlika winery The Metlika Wine Cellar is a mighty, 108-meter-long underground cellar that is particularly proud of its tunnel appearance. It is the largest wine cellar in Bela Krajina and invites lovers of authentic Bela Krajina wine to its premises. The cellar produces 750,000 liters of wine per year. If you decide to visit them, you will be impressed, because you will get to know Bela Krajina and its heart-felt people with a drop of Bela Krajina wine and a professionally guided tasting. Wine cellar Prus The Prus winery is located in Krmačina, and the specialty of this winery is that it is managed by three generations, who under one roof symbolize the family's winemaking tradition. The quality of the wines is what is of utmost importance to them. They produce everything from sparkling wines to still wines, all the way to predicates. Their specialty is straw wine - wine made from dried grapes. They are definitely known for their predicate wines, so a visit to them is a must if you are a fan of sweet wines. Šturm wines You will find Šturmovs in the immediate vicinity of Vidošiče, more precisely on the slopes below the church of St. Anne. From their residence, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the vineyards, hills and surrounding churches. You can also visit them in Supernova in Novo Mesto or in Metli Castle, in the Castle Cellar of Lidija Šturm, where they will serve you other drinks in addition to their wonderful wines. Pečarič wine house The Pečarič farm is located in Čurile and has been closely associated with viticulture for several decades. Their vineyards are located between Vidošiči and Vinomer, where the conditions for vineyards are the best. At their home, they will serve you home-made meats, excellent wines, and probably also some famous Slovenian quote or verse. In short, you will feel very at home, very authentically from Belokranija. Šuklje wine cellar The Šuklje Winery also boasts a long tradition, as winemaking has existed with them since 1895. Today, they invest a lot of knowledge in their wines, as their team consists of excellent winemakers and oenologists. They produce premium bottled wines and wines from the open program. They will gladly welcome you to their homestead for guided tastings in the cellar or in a wine bar in Ljubljana. Thus, we have listed only a few winemakers in Belokrajna (and very briefly), since they are the closest to you from our resort. But in Bela Krajina, as well as in the other two municipalities, there are a lot of excellent winemakers, which we may introduce to you another time. See you in Bela Krajina!

  • Kolpa river, the longest Slovenian riviera

The Kolpa River is the warmest river in Slovenia, often called the "longest Slovenian Riviera", and is also one of the most pristine and clean rivers in Slovenia. In the summer months, the Kolpa River measures up to 30 degrees Celsius - which is why it is basic for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, rafting and other water activities. The river is extremely rich in flora and fauna. Many rare, endangered birds have found a home next to it, especially those tied to the water. About 20 pairs of gray herons nest near the village of Miliči. Mention should also be made of the otter, which is one of Europe's most endangered mammals. Recent research shows the integrity of nature, as 39 species of indigenous fish have been discovered in the Kolpa River. It is attractive in all seasons; visitors prefer to visit it in the summer months, when it is suitable for swimming. In the small village of Razloge in Gorski Kotar, below which the river Kolpa originate. The Kolpa originates in a narrow depth, and the water comes to the surface from a deep karst siphon, which has not yet been fully explored, as divers have so far managed to descend "only" to a depth of 160 meters and originate at 321 meters above sea level. The water temperature is constant throughout the year and is 7 degrees C. The Kolpa River is the largest tributary of the Sava River in Croatia. The total size of the river basin is 10,236 km2; part of the river basin is located in the Republic of Slovenia, and part also in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

  • River Kolpa and glamping in green environment

It's that time again, where we have zipped up our Glamping tents and locked wooden houses for the next six month to star our annual maintenance period and to re-open in spring. Throughout the summer season, we were pleasantly pampered by the clean, warm and biotically rich river Kolpa, which changes its character several times in its course - from a mountain torrent at the source to a more lazy flat river downstream. That is why it is a great destination for an active holiday, where the whole family can enjoy. But when we stop and reflect on the season gone by we have realised this may have been one of our most special seasons yet. Thank you for your kindness, your thanks, and your support this season! Kolpa Resort glamping will re-open in early May 22. If you have been itching to come and stay with us this is your friendly reminder to do a little planning 😊 Reservations for the next season are already open at www.kolpa-resort.si #glamping #glamping2022 #vacation #poletje #oddih #kolparesort

  • Bela krajina, the land of hearty people

The country in the southeastern part of Slovenia, Bela krajina, is known as the land of white birches and in the last few years, under the slogan of a single tourist destination Bela krajina, as the land of hearty people. In addition to the natural heritage, wine culture and cuisine, we can also mention music and dance, as well as the white folk costumes that are characteristic of this part of Slovenia, as two important parallels in the lives of the people of Bela Krajina. As a combination of music and dance, Bela krajina proved to be a folklore, but it behaves differently from place to place - both in the pronunciation of folk songs and in the performance of its dancers. And why white national costumes? Why linen? Due to poverty, the inhabitants of the country on the edge of Slovenia were forced to wear white clothes made of linen, which today, in addition to white birches and litter, are the foundation of the folk tradition of Bela krajina. Who would have thought that the linen cloth they were forced to use because of poverty would be worth so much today. When we say so much, we have in mind the enormous prices of goods and perhaps as a curiosity, a real national costume made of goods, today one can hardly afford. The whole dress could also cost 500 EUR or more. Let's go back to the customs - dancing and singing. One of the oldest dances is the "kolo", which is not found anywhere else in Slovenia. According to the local Ivan Navratil, the girls once sang and played on the Metlika "kolo" on Easter Monday at the Metlika Pungart. (The people of Bela krajina call Easter Monday vuzem.) It was only later that the "kolo" became mixed. Usually the dance is led by a "vojarinka" who is constantly meandering. To "kolo" dance joins the game of bridge, continues in the wedding game of the lattice, and concludes with a rooster fight and wearing a turn. The most famous folklore groups in the area of Bela krajina are the Ivan Navratil Folklore Group and the Dragatuš Folklore Group. Older dance traditions also include smaller dances, such as the Fruška, jabuke, slive (pears, apples, plums dance), whose song was the inspiration for the name of the House of Goodies (Hiše dobrot Bele krajine), a boutique shop in the old town of Metlika, which brings together various Bela Krajina providers and their products. Bela krajina in various ways is interwind with folk customs, which are undoubtedly spread among people by folk dances and singing through singing and dancing. Understanding the traditions and culture of our ancestors is essential to creating a prosperous future. We are also aware of this at the Kolpa Glamping Resort, so with the exterior of our tourist resort as well as with other elements of the tourist offer, we constantly draw attention to the somewhat forgotten elements of everything we are today. Bela krajina je v najrazličnejših pogledih prepletena z ljudskimi običaji, ki jih s petjem in plesom med ljudi nedvomno širijo folklorni plesi in petje.

  • Glamping specialists

Wondering what glamping is? Our resort is located in the heart of the village of Krasinec, in Metlika, or in the southeastern part of Slovenia, which, due to the overgrown landscape with white birches, is called Bela krajina. This remote part of Slovenia is known for Bela krajina bread, white national costume, traditional red wine, Bela krajina heart people and many other specialties, which we wanted to bring closer to you, our guests, through the overall image of the resort and, last but not least, the tourist offer. . Glamorous tents, wooden houses and a natural biological pool in beautiful nature, not far from the river Kolpa. Did it sound like the perfect vacation? For us yes. And we believe it can be perfect for you too. Especially if you love spending time in nature while exploring the unknown and other summer experiences. There are quite a few special features of our resort. To begin with, it should be pointed out that Krasinec Castle once existed on the site where the resort now stands. Given that our houses are located on a hill, the fact of the castle makes a lot of sense. But let's leave history for today. Because we are thinking about a humane future, we have decorated our resort with materials that are friendly to our nature. The houses or Bela krajina houses, as we call them, are made in the completely traditional style of Bela krajina and are surrounded by healthy vegetable beam. Not only that, the children's garden house also proved to be a great offer for the youngest to spend time with. Our favorite corner is the fireplace, which is located in the middle of the resort and is intended for the common moments of visitors. A small bar for our guests, located in the reception area, is intended not only to inform our guests, but also to various organized day and evening gatherings. Last season, a wine tasting accompanied by music proved to be a great way for guests to socialize. Tasting Bela Krajina wine drops, the sound of a guitar and a gentle summer breeze in your hair… We are really looking forward to the re-opening of the 2022 season and new projects. Did you remember the words from the first paragraph? The part where we try to bring Bela krajina closer to our guests through the tourist offer. Well, this kind of evening socializing is only a part of carrying out this mission. At Kolpa glamping resort, we are well aware of the support of the locals, so we include Bela Krajina providers in our tourist offer wherever possible. Let's say at breakfast. Is there anything better than a breakfast of homemade delicacies themselves? If you answer yes, then you lied, well. Homemade breakfasts are the best thing for us, and because we also treat our guests the best, in the mornings we serve just that - a sieve of home-made Bela krajina delicacies, a home-made breakfast. The words written above may have acted as a compliment, but everything written (and what we failed to write this time) is justified by various acknowledgments that represent to us a confirmation of our work, our efforts. The last award we received was the Glamping Specialist of the year 2021/22, which we are especially proud of. Well, in the end, we do not do our work because of all these recognitions and awards, but because of the comfort and satisfaction of you, our guests. Rewards are just the tip of the iceberg that reminds us every now and then that we are developing and working in the right, desired direction and motivate us for further work, advancement and development. We will be happy if you choose our resort for the 2022 season, we will be happy if you (stay) our guest. We can promise you that we will continue to do our job as we have done so far and that we will only get better with our tourist offer from year to year. See you!
